Class 06 : Theology of the Holy Spirit
This course offers an in-depth study of the person and work of the Holy Spirit, with a particular focus on the doctrine of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the operation of the spiritual gifts. Students explore who the Holy Spirit is (His personality, deity, offices, titles, and biblical symbolism), His work throughout the Old Testament and in the life of Jesus, the nature and reception of the baptism in the Spirit, and what it means to walk in His fullness.

By the end of the module, students should be able to…
- …explain who the Holy Spirit is and articulate the doctrine of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit from Scripture.
- …distinguish the nine spiritual gifts and describe the purpose and proper function of each within the church.
- …identify the scriptural evidence for, and the conditions of, being filled with the Spirit.
- …evaluate the different theological positions on whether the gifts and signs and wonders continue today.
Transferrable Skills
Students should be in a position to:
- Minister the baptism of the Spirit and help others (including emerging leaders) grow into the fullness of the Spirit.
- Operate and steward spiritual gifts responsibly and in an orderly way within a community – including discernment, the judging of prophecy, and the laying on of hands.
- Critically weigh competing doctrinal positions using biblical and textual evidence, and apply sound interpretation to their own practice.
